Rare earth magnets are the strongest type of permanent magnets made, producing significantly stronger magnetic fields than other types. All rare earth magnets have a silver finish on them. Commonly used in woodworking by gluing them in place so they can be used as a clasp or latching mechanism on doors. Can be used for the hobby enthusiast.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Care should be taken when handling these magnets as they are brittle and easily damaged. Do not smash together or strike with tools. They can produce magnetic interference that is harmful to devices - their magnetic fields may damage or erase data stored in a magnetic state such as disks, credit cards and older generation computing equipment. Watches, other small mechanisms and microelectronics (e.g. portable electronic devices) are also susceptible. Do not expose to temperatures above 80-100 degrees Celsius.
